The Junior League of Jackson continues its almost 75-year mission of improving the community with the addition of Touch A Truck® Jackson, the League’s newest fund development business focused solely on children. Touch A Truck® Jackson 2017 rolled into town on March 24-25, at Trustmark Park. Last year’s Saturday General Admission event at Trustmark Park drew over 5,000 people with more than 40 pieces of heavy machinery, emergency response, utility, big rig and construction vehicles. New to 2016 was the addition of Field Trip Friday which allowed over 1,500 preschool and elementary children access to a schools-only preview of Touch A Truck® Jackson through organized field trips.
Children experienced sitting in the driver’s seat of an 18-wheeler and assisted in the operation of a backhoe. They explored military vehicles, fire trucks, ambulances, police cars and helicopters. Local community helpers were available to answer questions about their displayed equipment and their positions within our communities. Touch A Truck® Jackson was an enriching experience for all who attended. Nothing in Mississippi compares to the unique experience this event afforded our most precious resource – Mississippi’s children.
